MNEMONICS
One of the effective tools of memory is 'Mnemonics'. No other word in Englsih does start with "MN"! Mnemonics comes from a Greek word and it means a phrase, word, or verse that helps you to remember something.The word mnemonic shares etymology with Mnemosyne, the name of the titan who personified Memory in Greek mythology.
Most of us still remember the colours in a rainbow - Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, and REd - thanks to the Mnemonic "VIBGYOR". Like this, we may form thousands of Mnemonics in our daily life, to make easy rememberance of sequence of words, which otherwise are difficult to memorise.
We may see some examples:
1. How do you remember the geographical location of the Great Lakes? The simple word HOMES can help you remember—Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior.
2.IPMAT will help students remember the stages of cell division—Interphase, prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telephase.
3. BRASS helps to remember BRASS how to shoot a rifle-- Breath, Relax, Aim, Sight, Squeeze.
